My Year of Studies in Edinburgh, Scotland

Having an opportunity to study for your degree at a university in another country is a rare privilege for students at my income level. I decided before I was a teenager that I was going to pay my way through school as much as I could without getting any loans. I made sure my high school career made me eligible for as many grants as I could get. I used student loans as a last resort. I saved every penny I could, and found myself one day looking at student flats in Edinburgh to rent for a full year of studying abroad.

I could not believe that I was actually going to be living in Scotland for an entire 12 months. I was enrolled in classes for the full year, and I had to have a place to stay. I did not want to live in a dormitory, but I could not afford an apartment, or flat as they say, that was fully private. The student flats in Edinburgh are a very nice compromise, but you do have to be choosy about what landlord you pick. The places I looked at were all very clean and had nice furnishings. The kitchen and common area were more than suitable. I shared a bathroom space with another person. They were clean and courteous, so it was not a problem at all. Much better than my short dormitory experience I had back home at college.

I got used to the routines of life in Scotland. I knew it was going to make it hard to adjust when I got back. It seemed that things were at a much faster pace back home. I actually had time to relax and reflect on some of the things that I was learning. I enjoyed my time and where I stayed. I am looking forward to visiting again soon.
