When it comes to guns, decide what you want one or more for. Are they for self-defense? Hunting? Mechanically, a revolver is a good choice – there are few things to go wrong. Pick a common caliber so you can easily obtain ammunition, and pick one that is easy to handle. A .44 magnum is intimidating for self defense, and packs a lot of punch, but hauling around a heavy gun and heavy ammo. If you get a .357 magnum, it can fire both .38 special and .357 magnum rounds. Make sure you practice with it – no good having it in a SHTF situation if you know how to use it. Consider adding a rifle or a shotgun to your kit – and overlook the .22LR.

Honestly emergency kits that you can put together are listed online and preparing for a zombie apocalypse would be a waste of your time. Last i checked zombies are a monster of video games and hollywood.

It does come off your "total" income, resulting in your "net". This reduces your taxable income by this amount because you are not paying taxes on the amount that was taken off for your RRSP contributions. It is just taken off sooner in the calculation. RRSP contributions do still reduce your taxable income.

If it were me, I would pick-up some water purification tablets and make them central to my survival kit. Then, some bottled water.

Next, rule-out canned foods. Limited shelf-life? You must believe what people tell you. I I have canned food in my basement that is 5 years old and very edible. I also keep a box with a 4 week supply of canned food in it for emergencies. had blizzards in the that kept me inside for up to a full week, so that of supply comes in handy. If you are really worried about its freshness, simply rotate your emergency supply once a year. (Put the old stuff in the pantry for immediate use and refill the box with new cans.)

Oh yeah, and another thing. Some of the MRE foods have fillers in them that are meant to make you constipated. They do this so that soldiers that have just eaten feel an immediate need to relieve their bowels during combat. But after days of eating this stuff, it of creates a problem. A better option is the canned food route.

Warm clothing is Wool is best. Also a rain poncho that can be used as an emergency shelter. I could go on and on here, but just use some common sense. Hat, shirt, pants with billowed pockets.

The thing really "cool" to think that you can run about the streets or an urban landscape with your weapons and forage for food. The only problem is, there is probably someone else that was a scout sniper in Iraq that has a high-powered rifle with with a scope, and pointed at you from 200 yards away. And he gonna like it when he sees an armed stranger coming near his position.

Also, I would just take the essentials, and my sword, and go out on basically a suicide mission, to kill as many zombies as possible. I wait for the plague to kill everybody, when I find a good place to team up with some guys, going to act like in a war, get in touch with the military, and set myself up as a gorilla, and try to lessen the amount of zombies there are.

The food and water in these kits is just enough to survive – you are not going to feel like you just left McDonalds so I would pack more food and water. After reading many survival type websites, another recurring idea is to have lots of cash on hand. This seems to be the first thing to run-out during a disaster.
